This year we are doing something really different for Mother's Day. We are excited to announce an exclusive partnership with Luz Candle, a local business, for an exclusive candle created for Iremia Skincare.

Who Is Luz Candle?

At Luz Candle Co. we stand behind our promise to bring you clean burning candles made from natural, quality ingredients.

We hand-pour each candle with care in our hometown of Streetsville, Ontario. Our products are made with natural soy and coconut waxes blended together using essential oils and fragrances that are free of parabens and phthalates. We use high quality wooden wicks that produce a beautiful flame and nostalgic fire crackling sound while burning.

Zero dyes or chemicals are added into our products. Unlike paraffin wax candles that are made from crude oil and petroleum , our candles are derived from natural soy beans making them 100% safe to use without having to worry about the harsh side effects that regular paraffin candles may have on your health.

Luz Candle Story:

Founded by two long time friends Melissa & Jessica, Luz Candle's mission to bring clean burning candles started with a casual conversation over wine (don't all great convos start this way?) about the idea of natural products that we recently started dabbling into, and making smarter, more conscious choices in our daily lives. We began to swap tips and ideas we've recently learnt about, natural cleaning solutions, clean skincare etc. and while we had a candle burning while we chatted to keep the mosquitos at bay, the topic of candles came into light.  

We both LOVE candles, but it became apparent very quickly that we hadn't really done our research on what exactly we were bringing into our homes. We both suffered from headaches, sensitivities and candles seem to always be the culprit, but why? That's when the research began and we were shocked at our findings.

We began testing and experimenting making our own natural candles. We tried out various waxes, recorded our findings, compared fragrances and wicks, and constantly improved with feedback from our community.

After vigorous testing, lots of trial and error and not a headache in sight, Luz Candle was born in 2020!

Derived from the Portuguese word LUZ- Feminie noun - meaning light, radiance, shine - the bright energy that lets you see things. Minimal style and keeping things natural are the foundations of our brand. The simplicity of our products allows for them to fit into your home seamlessly without clashing with your own personal styles.

The Renia Candle

The Renia candle isn't just any candle. Renia is Jessica's mother, and this candle was created in her name. Here is her story:

"My mother, my superhero, my best friend and my angel - Renia. Anyone who knew Renia knows that she had the most selfless heart and a laugh that could brighten up any room, and I was the lucky one that was able to call her my mom. I don’t know how I got so lucky with the best mom in the world. She has helped me grow into the woman I am today by teaching me how to be confident in my skin, and to always treat others with kindness. I will forever hold these life lessons with me and try to be a little more like my mama every single day.

5 years ago my family’s world was turned upside down when we found out my mother had glioblastoma (stage 4 brain cancer). Even with a prognosis of only a few weeks, MAYBE months my mom refused to listen to the doctors. My mom went through many rounds of chemo, radiation, 2 brain surgeries and she continued to fight everyday with all of her strength, and never letting the cancer take the light within her. She was always smiling and even on her worst days she would continue to think of others before herself. Even though this cancer diagnosis was terrible it allowed us to realize what’s truly important in life and live everyday to the fullest (as we all should). There were ups and downs along the way, but we were able to fight together as a family and made many memories that I will forever cherish, like going on her dream vacation to Italy.

We lost our beloved Renia in August 2020, and we are still trying to learn how to live without her. So if you are lucky to still have your mother in your life, please take the time to show her your appreciation for all that she does - not only on Mother’s Day but every day. I would do anything to have a conversation with my mom, go on a long walk with our beloved westie Max, sing ABBA and Queen together in the car or just hold her hand one more time.

Mother’s Day will be hard for me this year as it will be the first one that I won’t be waking up early to cook my mom’s favorite breakfast (pancakes with berries YUM) and planning what flowers and gift to give my mother. Even though my mom is no longer physically with me, I know she is always by my side.

We created this candle in memory of Renia to bring a little light and peace into your homes. My mama was always a big fan of clean products and lavender essential oil was her favorite, so we put those two together to make something we know she would love. This candle also allows for us to make a difference in the fight against cancer - 25% of proceeds go to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research in hopes that we will get closer to finding a cure."
